Athens

So after counting down the days until spring break for several long months, we have finally arrived in Greece! I was pretty happy about not having to wake up at an ungodly hour to get to the airport; we met there around three in the afternoon. The plane trip to Germany was extremely long—nine hours following the sun! Flying over Hudson’s Bay, it was unreal because you could see the reflection of the stars in the water. It was also kind of cool that when the sun rose while we were in the air, I didn’t feel so tired anymore even though it was very early in the morning and I should have been exhausted. I guess we are all partially governed by the sun.

On the plane to Frankfurt I was sitting beside Kim and Selby, so it was pretty fun. Also I had Cailee’s awesome ‘plane note’ to occupy me for some time! The transfer to Athens was much shorter, so I just switched seats once to accommodate Rex and then sat, drifting in and out of sleep while listening to the Anime CD that my brother made for me.

We were all tired when we checked in to our hotel, the Divani Caravel, but were still able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The vegetation is so unique here, and very pretty. After dinner (which was mostly good except for the appetizer… were those cheese and liver omelet triangles?) we went to the roof top of the hotel and phoned our parents. The view from the top was none short of absolutely breathtaking! You can see the Acropolis and lots of cool lights from there. Amazing! But the best part of the trip so far was that our luggage was not, in fact, sent to the infamous Timbuktu and arrived here safely with us!
