More Transit Hate
Darn my devotion to DDR! Garrrrr!!
So today, after writing our in-class ‘persuasive’ essay, Alessandra and Ranjit and I were faced with a decision! Having two and a half hours until math, we could either go to Eau Claire and play DDR and get sherbet lemons, or, we could wait half an hour for the mac lab to open and finish our typesetting assignments so we could go home at 4:00. Well, I am freaking hopelessly in love with that infernal arcade game, so obviously I voted we go to Eau Claire. Plus, Ranjit didn’t feel like doing typesetting anyways. So, we went. And it was fun even though we had to get sherbet strawberries because they were out of lemon. But DDR was still great.
I finished my typesetting assignment pretty fast, and considering we’d gotten out of math early, I was heading home almost at the same time as I would have been had I not gone to typesetting at all (in the case that I’d chosen to finish the assignment over break). But as it turns out, seventeen minutes may have made a big difference today. There was an accident on the LRT tracks and my train stopped at 39th and everyone had to get off. They said shuttle buses would come and take us to Chinook, but after waiting for an hour we were… kinda… doubting that. Empty ‘out of service’ buses kept on driving past us, which was annoying. One guy seemed ready to kill someone, so the next time an out of service bus came, he stood in front of it so it had to stop and… well, we effectively hijacked it. Poor bus driver, it looked like it was his first day or something, haha. So we finally got to Chinook where we got on another train and then I took the bus home. Three hours spent in commute! Arrrg!
So, I guess the interesting things that happened through this whole ordeal are, one—I got to ride on a democratically hijacked bus and two—I got to ride a southbound train traveling on northbound tracks, O0o0oh!
Today’s lesson is: this city’s transit system suxxors.
