Location is Everything
I hate where I sit in French. I don’t hate the people around me; I don’t hate my teacher; I don’t hate my desk, but I do hate where it is. Far back, far right. Madame never, ever seems to be able to hear me when I answer her questions. So there are three possibilities here: 1. I don’t talk loud enough. 2. The teacher can’t hear me because of where I sit. 3. She is aggressively ignoring me, and sometimes I wonder.
And it’s not like she’s pulling the old, I know you know, Colette, but let’s see if everyone else does. No. Because it will be like this:
Madame: Who knows what ‘à & le’ makes?
Colette: Au.
Madame: Anyone? You guys should know this.
Colette: Au?
Madame: No one? It’s au. Start memorizing your notes.
And then either Aman or Kelly will turn around with a what the hell? look on their face and say, “You just said the answer twice!” And I will nod and sigh and stop caring.
Madame: Why do we use connector words?
Colette: Flow.
Madame: What’s the word?
Leslie: Umm let’s see.. I’m thinking of it.. like… flow!!
Madame: Excellent word!
