Green Bay
Green Bay was so much fun! I’ll be sorting through pictures and posting them soon. Now I have to write about a week’s worth of events. I’m just going to note the most exciting or important things that I did.
Parasailing – This was very cool; I wish I could do this more often, but it’s really expensive! They say we were two hundred and fifty feet up in the air. It’s perfectly silent up there. Awesome for reflecting.
Stargazing – I should do this more often. It’s so beautiful, and there’s almost nothing I like better… lie on the beach at night, feel the breeze, stare at the stars, draw close to God… sigh.
Bible X – It was kind of strange this year, because even before I went to Bible X, I knew more than half of my group. In fact, I was related to twenty percent of it. It was me, Julie, Dustin, Laura, Chelsey, Ashley, Neal, (and his brother but I can’t remember his name, ahh!) Hannus, (and his girlfriend but I can’t remember her name either.) We had some really good conversations.
Kid’s Campfire – Aww. The songs… I went to kids campfire because those songs are planted inside my soul from when I sang them there as a child. I watched my dad’s home videos of Green Bay before coming, when Julie and I were about five and six… I got teary. Anyways, Thor and Fresco = so funny!!
Spoons – Ahh!! I love this game so much! So many broken nails and so many injuries! Actually, this year wasn’t as bad as two years ago as far as injuries… but still just as fun!! Haha! Elliot ended up drinking something like nine glasses of water. By the middle of the semi-finals at our table, Jay started laughing and couldn’t stop—he was that hyper, and the game makes you tense anyway. It was hilarious!
Houseboat Cruise – On the last day of Bible X, we got to ride on the houseboat for an hour and a half for free. When they stopped it near the cliffs, Mike, Jay, Kim, Julie, Sammy, Vanessa and some of the other boys jumped off the side. This one kid did a flip; it was cool! I liked going on the cruise, it’s really relaxing.
Fishing for Minnows – Not many people will understand this… Kim, you will. When I was a little kid, I used to spend hours catching minnows in tiny nets at Green Bay or any lake that had them, really. We ourselves didn’t bring nets to camp, and by the last evening, it didn’t seem like anyone else had, either. But sure enough, on the last day we were there, Connor and Dillon were on the dock looking for the little fishes. The child inside me grinned and I joined them.
Speedboating I – Speedboating with Uncle Derek is insane. I love it. I went twice with him and once with Larry and Scott, but holy. The first time I went with Derek (and Kim, Dustin, Julie and Daniel-san) the sky seemed clear but it was very windy. By the time we were out for ten minutes, the wind had picked up even more, and so the boat was bouncing up and down so much and so hard that even tough-guy Daniel-san stated, “I think my hips are broken!” When we stopped for wakeboarding, Kim and I were in the front, and waves came right over the side of the boat and soaked both of us. After about half of us were done wakeboarding, clouds had rolled in. It started to rain slightly and we could hear thunder, but Derek decided to turn back only after the third sighted lightning bolt. My mom was worried. She gave him a stern look when we got back to the dock. Hehe.
Water Regatta – In the middle of the week there was a huge event, a competition in which all the games had something to do with water. Yeah, I was hesitant to sign up but my team seemed like a sure winner!! They should have told us the regatta was aimed at elementary-school-aged kids! We were the oldest team by far and we still lost. But it was fun, so who cares?!
Speedboating II – The second time we went out is a better story still! The wind was high initially, so he thought the waves would be smaller on the other side of the lake, and they were. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough gas to get us the whole way back. I don’t think we were right in the middle of the lake, but it seemed like it, when we were cruising along and all of a sudden we stopped dead. “Uh, guys? You’re gonna hate me. We’re outta gas.” That’s what he said. It was so funny! We thought he was kidding, but nope. So we started trying to flag down other boats to help. Dustin whipped out the paddle and started rowing madly, but we hardly moved at all. We lived the story of The Good Samaritan. Kind of. Well not really… but close-ish. A boat from Green Bay passed us by without stopping, but then another boat with a family in it came by. ‘Look at all these friendly people waving at us!’ Then Derek said, ‘Actually we’re out of gas. But we are friendly!’ They ended up towing us back to Green Bay.
