Gonna Really Rock ‘Em

Well, I got the job at Gemini! I’m scared to death, as is usually my reaction to change. But no, this is a great opportunity. I’m very happy and excited. Maybe I’ll get to have lunch with Kim and Matt and Kristen!

The job doesn’t start for another two weeks or so, which is good in a way. I need time to adjust to change or else I just feel like puking all the time! Like, from when I first applied for this job till now, my confidence has risen a bit. If I have time to find reassurances, I’m just fine!

One of the most inspirational things I’ve ever heard wasn’t a quote from a president, or a line from a motivational speaker. It was something my pal Matt said to a group of us in passing about his new job. He said, “They say it usually takes about three months for the interns to learn the system well enough that they can start doing independent, constructive work. Well, I’m going to work really hard and learn it in two months, ’cause I want to really rock ’em!” I want to rock ’em, too! I’ll work hard, too.

Another thing that gives me peace is this Alan Cohen quote that I love.

“It takes alot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure— to embrace the new. There is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting. In movement there is life. In change there is power.
