Just Dying to Know?
Well somehow, I don’t think so.
Hello friends; haven’t you been just dying to know what’s new in the life of me? I knew it!
AndrĂ©’s here in Canada now, staying with my family for the next three months. His practicum is at SFN Biosystems, which is perfect because it ties into his degree completely. As for what he’s doing specifically… you’ll have to ask him!
I had my first in-car driver’s ed session yesterday and it went pretty well. On the phone, my instructor sounded a bit neurotic but she was actually very nice and patient. So, here’s hoping that I won’t need any extra lessons and that next month this time, I’ll be done and ready to take a road test. I just can’t get over how great it’ll be to be able to drive finally. And how great it is not to be afraid of it; the thing that’s held me back for this long.
All of my artistic energy has been very scattered lately, but it did stay focused long enough to finish my latest picture. I started this one around the beginning of June but I just had a crappy outline for the longest time. When I actually started smoothing it out and adding detail, I got kind of obsessed with it and finished it in two weeks or so. Click me! Now I’m slowly working on a picture of an astronomical clock, because those things are all kinds of cool.
I’m reading the Dionne Years right now, about the quintuplets born in the 30s in Ontario. It’s pretty tragic. They were taken from their parents and raised, basically, in a zoo where people could view them from behind glass. And you know, to think about it, it’s strange what will interest the public. I mean, yes, they were unique in history: first and only recorded set of identical female quints. I don’t know why, but the way they were raised just seems so weird to me. I guess multiple births were rare enough then, but for them to be identical just defied the odds to a stunning degree. And I also suppose that not much has changed, because now that I think about it, there’s a TLC show about a couple who has twins and sextuplets. And that’s the only thing uncommon about that family, the sextuplets. It’s enough to give them their own TV show, though, so I suppose we’re still interested in multiple births.
Next weekend I’m going to the 2008 Alberta Star Party in Drumheller and I am psyched about it! I’ll probably be bringing my telescope so it can make friends with all the other telescopes there. I guess there’s not much to say about this… except that I can’t wait!
